National Guard in Algiers - and a request

It's happening now. The Point is reporting that the National Guard is in Algiers, and is going door-to-door telling everyone they have to leave.

Does anybody out there have a car with a spare set of keys that can be used by folks who don't have transportation.

I don't know yet what their options are (can they catch a bus?), nor do I have any feel for how much time they'll be given.

If you have a vehicle with spare keys (stashed), and you are interested, please email me privately (don't use the comments).

    help for the point

I have two generators, one diesel, one gas. I live in the point on Elmira street. I have a chain saw and other tools. I also have plenty dry food. Lets allow fire, police, and rescue personel to stay in our homes to protect our neighborhood. Anyone is better than looters and criminals. I can be reached by phone at 504-416-7275 or 904-221-5341. Please do not call late, and ask for daryel, or you can e-mail me at anastasi@cox.net. Let us pull together and save our neighborhood, lives, and property.

My Grandfather... know as Mr. Treadaway there. Lived At 312 Eliza. He is in his 90's and is fine, but is concerned about his neighbor George that was always there for him. If these names sound familiar let me know. He is somewhat concerned of looting on his house but also concerned for his neighbors. I think George is at 318 Eliza. George if you read this email Ahston at thequiltingbee@houston.rr.com.

God Bless all of you and we are praying for your safety and the safety of your loved ones.

Spoke with my parents who evacuated from the gated subdivision next to Aurora country club. My father (USMC colonel, retired)was in contact with some people who remained on the military base by Algiers - they had some flooding 2 to 4 feet on the base and wind damage. Since there are people at the base, and the base is likely to have supplies, has anyone at the point considered attempting to contact or team up with people there?

So thankful for this blog and for information contributed by others.

Any information about the subdivision I mentioned would be appreciated. One or two peole stayed and weathered the storm, but no word from them. My parents live in the big yellow house next to the levy.

Thank you to polimom for this blos, thanks and best wishes for those stranded and fighting to keep order on the westbank.

Hi Alastair. We're in Memphis for an indefinite period. The navy has sent John here til whenever. We were curious as to how the house fared, but it sounds like the neighborhood made it through okay. If you need to reach us, John's cell is 504-261-9335. Hope you all are safe wherever you made it to. John & Krista.

If anyone is still in Algiers and driving around, I would appreciate a drive by my mom's house, it's near General Meyer and Woodland Dr. (Btw. Gen. Meyer and MacArthur, on the river side of DeGaulle). If you email me directly, I'll give you the address. i_live_in_detroit@yahoo.com.
